Butler-Hughes Funeral Home, Inc.

When a loved one dies the family must make some very hard decisions while under tremendous stress with not a lot of time in which to make them.  Emotions are in a state of upheaval, and feelings so tender the slightest misunderstanding can become a major issue.

Many families have maintained a close enough relationship that they know how each member of the family responds to such times.  Other families have not had the chance to spend a great deal of time together and these decisons are sometimes harder to agree upon.  Either way we will help guide you in understanding the different options available and come to a mutually beneficial decision.

By preplanning ahead of time YOU make the choices and spare the family the difficulty of deciding what you wanted in the way of a funeral or memorial service.  If prearrangements are in place all that is needed is a telephone call to let us know of your passing.  Decisions and sometimes payments are already in place eliminating the need for an arrangement conference during one the most stressful times in a persons life.

Planning your funeral arrangements in advance can offer you and your family a number of benefits:

Emotional Benefits
  • More Time to Consider Your Options - You and your family will have time to research your options and make well-informed decisions, without feeling rushed.
  • A Sense of Accomplishment - You'll feel good knowing that these arrangements have been taken care of.
  • Fewer Family Concerns - Your surviving family members will have less to worry about in the event of your death.

Financial Benefits
  • The Option to Prepay (Revocable Funeral Trusts) - When you prepay, you can lock in today's prices. We will also explain different payment plan options and will help you make a decision that best suits you and your family.
  • Your Family Keeps More - When you prepay, your estate will owe nothing on funeral expenses.  More of your assets and life insurance proceeds will go directly to your family.
  • Medicaid (Irrevocable Funeral Trusts) - When funeral arrangements are paid in advance or when prepaying for someone who is in the Medicaid approval process, the funds for the funeral can not be taken away and are exempt as a personal assest.  This is especially important to do ahead of an eventual Medicaid situation since Medicaid allows all of the funeral expenses to be paid in full.  A Medicaid approval process is very tedius and confusing.  We can answer any questions you might have regarding setting up an irrevocable funeral trust before the recipient loses their right to prepay, thus leaving the family left behind to pay the funeral expenses at the time of death.
  • Fewer Last-minute Expenses - When you plan in advance, your family is less likely to incur additional expenses at the time of the funeral.  When you preplan with the Butler-Hughes Funeral Home all expenses are guaranteed (in writing) and your family will be left with no additional funeral expenses.
